The Arts and Crafts movement, characterised by its emphasis on craftsmanship, simplicity, and a reverence for nature, flourished in Surrey during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

On this tour, learn more about the Arts and Crafts movement and our artist-founders, George and Mary Watts. Find out about their home and studios at Limnerslease, Watts Cemetery Chapel, Watts Gallery and the Pottery Building. This tour takes you on an exploration of the original architecture of our site.

After the tour, you can independently explore the inside the galleries and Limnerslease, and see more detail and work by the founders. This package offers the fullest Watts Gallery experience both inside and out. Please wear warm clothing and comfortable shoes as this tour takes place predominantly outside.

Take home An Artists' Village book written by former Curator of Watts Gallery, Mark Bills. This book tells the story of the impact of George Frederic Watts, OM, RA (1817- 1904) and his wife Mary Seton Watts (Fraser Tytler 1849- 1938) on Compton, a small village in Surrey. More than a guide, this book presents a complete history that will appeal to readers who wish to know the story of a unique Artists' Village.
