Join us this summer for morning ceramic workshops for adults and children alike! From the 18 July to 25 August, our Foyle Pottery Studio will open its doors to visitors to create with clay.
Whether you're seeking a creative outlet, looking for a unique way to spend time with loved ones, or simply curious about the art of clay, these workshops are perfect to explore, create, and connect.
Guided by skilled artists, learn the techniques to craft your very own terracotta tile (Thursday and Saturdays) or decorative pinch pot (Friday and Sundays). Continuing the belief of our founders George and Mary Watts that art can transform, our sessions are tailored for creators of all ages and skill levels.
Workshops can be booked as an add-on to your admission for visiting the wider Watts Gallery - Artists’ Village, or as a stand-alone workshop without admission.
By both adding and taking clay away, create a terracotta tile. Be inspired by Mary Watts’s Celtic shapes on the Chapel, or the delicate details from the prints in the Edo Pop exhibition.
Get to grips with a simple method for creating pots, which can be decorated as they are, or used as a stepping stone to create a more sculptural ceramic creation.
As we will be using terracotta clay, as Mary Watts herself did, the works will need to be fired to turn from clay to ceramic. This firing will be done in our own Foyle Pottery Studio’s kiln, and you will be contacted approximately three weeks after your workshop with an invitation and information for collection.
Once you have been contacted for collection, we will hold the ceramics for two months, after which they will no longer be available. The ceramics will not be glazed.
