Join us for a private tour of some collection highlights at Fitzwilliam Museum, followed by a visit to Murray Edwards College for a private tour and afternoon tea.
This event is open to Exhibition Circle, Patrons and Adopt a Watts members.
We will be visiting Fitzwilliam Museum first, for a private tour of some of the collection highlights with Neal Spencer, Deputy Director – Collections and Research.At 2pm we will visit Murray Edwards College for a private tour with one of the curatorial team, Harriet Loffler.This will be followed by afternoon tea, hosted by Dorothy Byrne - Fellow and President of Murray Edwards College.
There will be free time between 12 and 2pm for you to look round Cambridge and have some lunch.
The Fitzwilliam Museum houses a world-renowned collection of over half a million beautiful works of art, masterpiece paintings and historical artefacts from around the world. Collection highlights include: Claude Monet, Les Peupliers, Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn, Portrait of a Man in Military Costume, and Nakhtefmut’s mummy case, to name but a few.
Murray Edwards College houses The Women’s Art Collection, Europe’s largest collection of art by women. It includes 600 works by leading artists such as Barbara Hepworth, Paula Rego, Lubaina Himid, Faith Ringgold, Tracey Emin and Cindy Sherman. Founded in the early 1990s, the Collection challenges the underrepresentation of women artists in museums and galleries.
