Watts Gallery – Artists' Village is a vibrant cultural hub in the village of Compton, just outside Guildford. Founded by artists George Frederic and Mary Watts in the 1890s, visitors will encounter art, old and new.
Visit this summer and see artworks by George, England's Michelangelo; a magical chapel created by Mary with the local community; and the artists' home and studio, Limnernease. Discover Victorian Virtual Reality, an exhibition dedicated to stereoscopy, a 19th century craze that saw the birth of 3D images. There is also a free exhibition above the shop with beautiful artworks created from found materials, as well as family days in August and a full programme of creative workshops, talks and tours.
This summer GSC promise a dynamic double-bill of feel-good shows, staged at two of Guildford’s stunning outdoor locations.
HENRY V, Shakespeare's action-packed story of victory against the impossible, and a celebration of theatre’s electrifying power, is staged at majestic Guildford Cathedral.
Revised and re-worked for the open-air, THE CANTERBURY TALES features live music, puppetry, and captivating storytelling. Seven deliciously colourful stories unfold in an anarchic, fun-filled show. Staged at GSC’s own HQ in the beautiful Stoke Park.
West Horsley Place was privately owned and occupied by Mary, Duchess of Roxburghe until her death in 2014. Much to his surprise, she left the property to her great-nephew Bamber Gascoigne (1935-2022). Their vision was that West Horsley Place should be conserved for the future and open for everyone to enjoy with culture, heritage and nature at its heart.
This Summer, dscover a new family destination with Sunflower SummerFamily Fun, every Tues – Fri this August at West Horsley Place. Enjoy nature trails, crafts, storytelling and more, revealing the estate’s hidden secrets.

At the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre this summer there’s plenty for families, including an acclaimed circus-filled production of Around the World in 80 Days from 11 to 15 July.
Engage and be amazed with the Sime Gallery in Worplesdon, a gallery resurrected with hidden gems and showing a life story that reads like a Victorian novel of the once renowned artist, illustrator, caricaturist and humourist, Sidney Herbert Sime 1865-1941.
In total there are over 500 catalogued items, including 88 works on display. These feature large fantastical paintings, landscapes in oil and watercolour, theatrical sketches, and caricatures of local Worplesdon residents.
