Can you tell us about your creative practice?
Pottery is an art that require patience. I start by throwing whichever shapes I need to make and then wait for it to dry a bit before turning the excess clay off the bottom. Once that is done, the wares need to be bone dry before being bisque fired. They then get decorated and glazed and fired once more. Each stage is satisfying in its own way with room for making or breaking the piece.
What inspires you to create art?
I love the pottery craft, but I am especially inspired by Japanese and Korean Ceramics.
Where is your favourite place to feel inspired at Watts Gallery?
The Watts Gallery Artist Village has such an amazing collection of areas to be inspired by, but my favourite is the Chapel designed by Mary Watts. It has an amazing terracotta exterior full of symbolism and beautifully made tiles. Everywhere you look there is intricate work. The interior is just as impressive with its wall paintings and stucco work.
